Sonata No.2, for trumpet and piano, was completed in 2000, fifteen years after Sonata No. 1. While the composer is not a trumpet player, she grew to love the sound of the trumpet and piano together. She found that most of the trumpet literature consisted of concertos with orchestral reductions not well suited for the piano or pianist. Sonata No. 2 is the result of writing for the two instruments in a way that is idiomatic and interesting to both.
